WASHINGTON (AFP) – Former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, for years an inscrutable seer on the economy, is causing a stir by alleging in his new memoir that “the Iraq war is largely about oil.”
Greenspan, who as head of the US central bank was famous for his tight-lipped reserve, is uncharacteristically direct, also accusing President George W. Bush of abandoning Republican principles on the economy.
“I’m saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows — the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he wrote in reported excerpts of “The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World,” which is set for release on Monday.

Greetings. add to the list on how we play. Genocide against the population in question. Theft of all valuable items, like the priceless items that disappeared from the Museum in Baghdad. and jewelry that is taken from Iraqi citizens and magically disappears? Or the destruction of and non restoration of hospitals, power stations, water purification plants and sewage disposal plants, then awarding the contract to repair and restore them at extreme high cost to corporations like Halliburton. And it is not how America plays it. it is how the Republican Party plays it. America is not behind the genocide wars the Republicans glory in. It is just captive without any hope of rescue either. The war in Iraq is about oil.. but not only Iraqi oil. its about all the oil in the middle east – Arabian gulf area that would have been threatened by leaving Saddam Hussein in power. If he had been left he would have grown his army and his weapon capabilities and eventually attacked Kuwait – Saudi Arabia – united Arab emeritus and others, with potential risk of cutting the flow of oil from these countries which would have had dire effects on the world economy!. Now that Iraq is no longer a threat, the mantle of suspicion falls upon IRAN, who’s is well known to building up its army and weapons capability in much the same way has IRAQ was.. Sooner or later Iran will have to be dealt with, which probably means that a very tough time in the near future for the whole world.

It’s NOT about the U.S. “stealing” the Iraqi oil, it’s about securing the oil supplies for the GLOBAL ECONOMY.
The primary consideration was a genuine belief that the US troops were going to bring about a better tomorrow for the Iraqis. That was what they believed in (and some still do – and why not?).

If you watch the Greenspan interview from a couple of days ago, or better still read the book, you will know that this one statement has been taken totally out of context.
